I love a short story, a novella, and a book under 500 pages. Every so often, though, I crave a book big enough and long enough to see me through a bout of bronchitis or a road trip. If you've seen Gilmore Girls, you know Rory mentioned this behemoth in her high school commencement address. What you may not know is that while it may take a minute to be certain if the character you think is talking is the same one who was talking several pages before (everyone in this book has at least three names), once you do, the chapters fly. Both commercial and literary, about faithfulness and adultery, repentance, and condemnation, growing up and growing bitter; Anna may be the title character, but she's not the only one worth meeting in this tome.
