FAQ
What is a Library of Things?
Similar to our book collections, a Library of Things (LOT) provides community members with access to a diverse range of borrowable items. The establishment of these collections was a direct response to feedback gathered from our annual Customer Satisfaction Survey. We now loan several games, electronics and crafting supplies.
How long can I keep LOT items?
All items check out for 1 week, but you can renew them if another customer does not have a hold on them.
How many items can I check out at one time?
The current limit of items checked out from the LOT is 3 items total.
Can I place a hold on a LOT item?
You can place a hold on items in the same way you place a hold on other materials. Once your hold is fulfilled, you may pick up the item at your designated Mid-Columbia Libraries' branch.
Can I browse LOT items?
All items can be browsed at the Keewaydin Park library located at 405 S. Dayton St. in Kennewick, but you can have items delivered to a branch closer to you by placing a hold on the item.
Where can I find a description about the LOT items?
If you search for the item, you can select details to see more information about an item including a description, target audience, and more.
What if an item I checked out is missing pieces, broken, or dirty?
Please notify library staff if your item is not in usable condition before you return it. Library staff inspect items when they are returned.
What happens if I lose or damage pieces?
Lost or damaged items are the responsibility of the borrower. For more information see our Lost or Damaged Items policy.
Why do I need to fill out a waiver before borrowing certain items?
Certain items present a risk when using them, especially if not used as intended. The waiver protects the library from liability in the case of improperly used items. Please read the user manuals of items to learn proper use of such items.
Why can't my child borrow certain items?
Some items require a signed waiver to borrow. These items are only checked out to customers who are over 18 and have a signed waiver.
Do some of your things come with consumable items?
Consumables items are not provided by the library. Examples of consumables include vinyl for the Cricut, paint for the airbrush tools, lamination sheets for the laminator, etc. Some consumable items may be left over from a previous customer, but if you are borrowing an item that requires consumables, please plan on purchasing these as they will not be included.
