Kid's Art Show: Call for Art

Beginning March 1, Mid-Columbia Libraries will be collecting art from artists ages 0-11 to display at the Kennewick library. Our theme is art inspired by books. We want to see what you imagine when you read your favorite book.

Submission Window: March 1 - March 15

Opening Reception: Friday, March 20 from 4 pm - 6 pm 

Art on Display: March 20 - March 31

Art Pick-up Window: April 1 - 15

Who Can Submit?

This art show is intended for children from birth to 5th grade. Have a 6-month-old that made some remarkable marks? Yes, they can participate. Have a 12-year-old that is a 5th grader? Yes, they can participate. 

 

What Can I Submit?

Our show is accepting all types of 2D and 3D art no larger than 20 x 20 x 20. 3D art must be able to sit on a flat surface. Please note that we are limiting submissions to one item per artist. Art must be family-friendly as viewers of all ages will see the art.

 

How Do I Submit My Art?

Art can be submitted at any Mid-Columbia Libraries branch between March 1 through 15 during normal open hours. Expect to fill out a brief submission form that includes a space for a title and brief description of your art piece.

All art will be returned to the library branch you indicate on your submission form. You will have from April 1 through the 15 to pick up art. After April 15, art will be recycled.

Awards

There will be two People's Choice awards. Attendees will vote for their favorite piece from two age divisions during the opening reception: Preschool (0-5) and elementary (6-11). The winner by popular vote for each division will receive a $50 dollar gift certificate to BLICK Art Materials. No additional prizes or formal judging will take place. Artist do not need to be present to win and the registration form contact information will be used to contact winners.

FAQ

 

Who can attend the reception? 

The reception is open to everyone. We hope you invite your friends, family, and community see art created by young artist from our region!

Can my child submit art if we can't make it to the reception?

Your child can submit art even if you are unable to attend the opening reception. Art will be displayed at the Kennewick library from March 20 through the 31, so even if you are unable to attend the opening reception, you can still see art on display. 

What if I don’t have a library card or don’t live in the MCL service area?

A library card is not required to participate. If you live in our service area or in one of our neighboring communities with which we have reciprocal borrowing, we would love your participation. Information about reciprocal borrowing and which communities it applies to can be found here.

What happens if my art is damaged during the show or transportation? 

We know you worked hard on your art and we will endeavor to treat your art with respect. Your participation indicates that you understand the risks and understand that the library is not responsible for damage incurred participating in the art show.

  • MCL reserves the right to deny any piece of artwork
  • MCL is not responsible for loss or damage of artwork
  • The art is for display only, no art will be sold or formally judged
  • No artwork may be removed before the end of the show 
  • Artwork not picked up after the designated pick-up window will be recycled
