Job Summary

Our Programs Department is seeking to fill a Programs Specialist position with a dynamic individual who has the desire to engage with customers of all ages and has a passion for serving the public! This position will perform a variety of tasks in support of our upcoming Summer Reading Challenge (SRC) events. This is a temporary, part-time, approximately 16 hours/week job assignment expected to begin May 2026 and conclude by September 30, 2026. 

The Programs Specialist will support branch staff in their implementation of Summer Reaching Challenge (SRC) and other large system-wide programs by participating in outreach to local schools and preschools, attending community events to promote the library resources, supporting associated merchandising and publicity, making public presentations, and providing crowd control at large events. The Programs Specialist may also provide behind-the-scene support by preparing activities, coordinating program logistics, and navigating implementation issues.

What is SRC?

Mid-Columbia Libraries hosts an annual Summer Reading Challenge (SRC), a program that encourages reading and participation in library events and programming for all ages! Our SRC program draws thousands of participants each summer for national caliber performers and for fun and engaging activities. Join our team this summer!

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college
  • Two years clerical experience; library experience preferred. Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience
  • Ability to work afternoon/evenings and travel to other branches
  • Must be able to obtain a valid Washington State driver's license
  • Ability to promote a culture of belonging by supporting MCL's commitment to a Healthy Workplace

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience coordinating events and/or programs
  • Experience working with families
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
